These 4th of July patriotic pretzel rods are an easy-to-make, extra festive dessert. Made with a candy coating to resemble a flag. The stars and stripes dress up a party table as an edible snack! These can be made several days ahead.
Prepare pretzel rods. Lay out parchment paper and set out each pretzel rod on top of the paper.
Melt blue candy. Melt down blue candy melts by placing them in a microwave safe dish, and heating in one minute intervals, stirring after each, until smooth.
Pipe on blue candy. Scrape melted candy into a piping bag. Hold one pretzel and apply blue candy to the top ⅓ of the rod, using a back and forth motion. Rotate the rod in your hand as needed to cover all sides.
Add stars. Before blue candy coating cools completely, carefully press on star sprinkles. Then set on pretzel rod on the parchment paper to cool. Repeat adding blue and stars to each pretzel rod.
Add red candy coating. Heat and stir red melting chocolate, in the same fashion. Add to piping bag then pipe red candy onto on the rest of each pretzel (leaving a small section at the bottom to hold onto).Place on parchment paper to let cool and set.
Add white stripes. Melt down white candy melts and add to another piping bag. Drizzle across the red portion of your pretzel, leaving space between, to create stripes, as shown. Let cool and set then serve or package in clear plastic.
Notes
It helps to put each empty piping bag into a tall glass and fold the large opening over the rim of the glass. This keeps it open and frees your hands to fill the bag with the melted chocolate, scraping the candy into the piping bag.If using disposable piping bags, you may need to cut a small hole at the end.
