    ★ Why You'll Love this Recipe ★

Homemade Green Goddess dressing goes great on my Green Goddess salad. Or try it on any salad, over chicken, as a dip with fresh veggies or add it to a sandwich or wrap!

    Creamy Cool and Fresh Flavor

Green Goddess dressing is so delicious, you might find yourself eating it straight from the spoon. It’s a wholesome, homemade favorite that’s as good for you as it tastes.

This recipe is creamy and flavorful, with just the right amount of tang from fresh lemon juice. Garlic and Dijon mustard add a bold punch, while a touch of honey brings in a subtle hint of sweetness to balance the flavors.

Made with a blend of spinach, avocado, chives, dill, green onions, parsley, plain Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, garlic, Dijon mustard, olive oil, salt and pepper, lemon juice, and honey, this dressing can't help but overwhelm your senses in the best way possible.

    Vitamin-Rich

Packed with nutrients, this vibrant green dressing gets an extra boost from spinach, blended with fresh herbs. The combination creates a refreshing, herbaceous flavor that’s both light and satisfying.

    Greek Yogurt Based

The base is made with olive oil, Greek yogurt, and just a spoonful of mayo to create a thick, rich texture. This creamy trio gives the dressing a luxurious richness without being heavy. Feel free to add avocado as well for extra creaminess.

Use it on Salads, Wraps or as a Dip

Green goddess dressing is wonderful on salads, on sandwiches or wraps, or try it as a dip with chips, veggies, bread or even meat!

    ★ Ingredients You'll Need ★

    Green Goddess Dressing Ingredients
    • Spinach. Fresh baby spinach is best. You can use frozen though.
    • Chives. Fresh is best but dried will work.
    • Dill. Pinch off the stems. Fresh or dried.
    • Green onions. Cut off the ends and pop the whole thing into the food processor.
    • Parsley. Fresh with stems removed or use dried.
    • Plain Greek yogurt. This adds creaminess, probiotics, and protein. Kefir can also be used for a more tart flavor.
    • Avocado. This adds creamy goodness and good-for-you fats.
    • Mayonnaise. This can be replaced with more Greek yogurt, sour cream, or more avocado if desired but I do like the richness a bit of mayo adds.
    • Garlic. You can certainly use fresh cloves but I typically use garlic paste to save time. Garlic powder also works.
    • Dijon mustard. This layers in a burst of spice, tang, and aroma cutting through the creaminess and balancing out the greens. Honey dijon works too and you can skip adding honey separately.
    • Olive oil. This adds smoothness and richness to the dressing. Avocado oil or grape seed oil can also be used.
    • Salt and pepper. Sea salt or regular table salt, freshly ground pepper adds more powerful flavor if you have it. Add these to taste.
    • Lemon juice. You want this to be freshly squeezed. Bottled lemon juice just doesn't have the same power and you don't want to add too much and water down the dressing.
    • Honey. Adjust up or down to your desired level of sweetness.

    ★ Tips & FAQs ★

What does green goddess dressing taste like?

Green goddess dressing is creamy, tangy, and packed with fresh herb flavor. It has a rich base (like mayo or yogurt), brightened with lemon and garlic, and often includes a subtle umami boost from anchovy. The overall taste is fresh, savory, and slightly zesty.

Is green goddess the same as ranch?

Green goddess is more herbaceous and bold, and tends to be healthier because its made with fresh veggies. Whereas, ranch is more mellow in flavor and leans more towards creamy and rich. They both work well as dips, dressings, and sandwich spreads but they're not the same.

What's the origin of Green Goddess dressing?

Green Goddess dressing originated in the 1920s at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. It was created by the hotel’s chef to honor actor George Arliss and his play The Green Goddess. The dressing’s vibrant color and herbaceous flavor reflect its theatrical inspiration.

Does green goddess dressing have avocado in it?

The original Green Goddess dressing does not actually have avocado as an ingredient. However, it just makes sense to add it into this creamy, herby dressing If you are looking for a more authentic flavor and texture, feel free to leave avocado out of your homemade dressing.
