This Cinnamon Apple Strudel Casserole is a variation of my fan-favorite Cinnamon Roll Casserole incorporating healthy, delicious apples!

    ★ Why You'll Love this Recipe ★

This is a simple way to make cinnamon apple strudel using Pillsbury cinnamon rolls. Save time without sacrificing flavor by making the classic dessert into a casserole.

This casserole combines the classic flavors of apple strudel with the convenience of cinnamon roll dough. The result is a delicious, gooey, and comforting dessert that's easy to make.

    Cinnamon Apple Strudel Casserole

This apple strudel dessert is moist, flavorful and just the right balance of sweet and tart. You'll love the flaky dough and how this quickly feeds a family or small crowd.

This super easy dish is perfect for fall as dessert, brunch or breakfast.

    ★ Ingredients You'll Need ★

This recipe comes together quickly and easily with a few key ingredients.

    Here's everything you'll need:

    • Cinnamon roll dough. I prefer Pillsbury Grands Flaky dough. It creates a lgih and fluffy texture.
    • Granny Smith Apples. This tart variety of apples works really well with the sweet cinnamon-sugar flavor of this dish.
    • Eggs. These coat the cinnamon dough pieces, locking in moisture.
    • Flour. Just a little bit of flour combines with the sauce to help coat the dough.
    • Butter. This creates a non-stick barrier while also adding a rich creamy element. Salted.
    • Heavy whipping cream. Just a touch of heavy whipping creams adds rich and creamy flavor to the sauce.
    • Cinnamon, vanilla extract and nutmeg season the sweet sauce.
    • Icing. You'll finish off this yummy casserole with the icing included with the cinnamon roll dough. Wait for casserole to cool before applying so your icing doesn't get absorbed.

    That's everything!

★ How to Make this Recipe ★

Here's a look at the steps involved in making this recipe:

    • Slice dough.
    • Mix together coating ingredients.
    • Toss dough pieces in egg mixture.
    • Peel, slice and add apples.
    • Toss.
    • Bake.
    • Let cool.
    • Top with icing.

Super simple to make. Tastes oh-so-good!

    ★ Tips & FAQs ★

Can I make the cinnamon roll dough from scratch?

Yes, you can certainly make your own cinnamon roll dough from scratch if you prefer. There are many recipes available online, or you can use your favorite homemade dough recipe.

    How do I store leftovers?

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat individual servings in the microwave or warm the entire casserole in the oven at a low temperature.

Can I freeze the Apple Strudel Casserole?

Yes, you can freeze the casserole before or after baking. If freezing before baking, assemble the casserole in a freezer-safe dish, cover it tightly, and freeze. When ready to bake, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and then bake as directed. If freezing after baking, let it cool completely, wrap it well, and freeze. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.

Can I add nuts or raisins to the strudel filling?

Sure! Feel free to customize the filling with chopped nuts, such as walnuts or pecans, or add a handful of raisins for extra texture and flavor.

What should I serve with the Apple Strudel Casserole?

This casserole is delicious on its own, but you can enhance it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce for an extra special treat.

Can I make this ahead of time?

You can assemble the casserole the night before, cover it, and refrigerate it. Bake it the next day when you're ready to serve. This is a great time-saving option for entertaining or special occasions.

Can I use different types of apples?

You can use a variety of apples, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji, depending on your taste preferences. Mixing different apple varieties can also add complexity to the flavor.

How do I prevent the cinnamon rolls from getting too brown during baking?

If you notice that the cinnamon rolls are browning too quickly, you can tent the casserole with aluminum foil during the last part of the baking time to prevent excessive browning while ensuring the center cooks through.

    Notes

*Type of cinnamon rolls used can also vary cook time.
**Bake time can vary greatly based on the size of your pan as well as the material (metal, glass, ceramic, etc.) Check for doneness by carefully examining a middle piece. If it's doughy, it still needs more time.
Cover with foil and bake for a more moist casserole.
