★ Why You'll Love this Recipe ★
“And he could... go... all... the... way... ” ?
I remember my dad yelling sportscaster Chris Berman's catchphrase at the TV as he slowly lifted out of his chair in anticipation of a touchdown.
We're Washington fans, so 1992 was a big year—especially with Buffalo fans in the family! That game had us all on the edge of our seats.
Nearly 80 million people watched, about a third of Americans. Love it or not, football's a big deal—and even non-fans can enjoy the commercials and the excuse to gather and eat snacks!
Football and snacks just go together
Fun takes all forms and for me, football equals an opportunity for making and munching delicious snacks, sweets, and slow-cooker comfort food.
From chili to bundt cakes, I've been known to make football watching into a food thing. I mean, why not? If there's anything America loves as much as football, it's food.
Which brings me to this easy, delicious, and totally adorable football-themed snack. Think sweet-and-salty kettle corn (like the kind you find at festivals) plus almonds decorated to look like mini footballs. Yep, even the toughest fans will think they’re cute.
★ Tips & FAQs ★
The trickiest part? Icing the little footballs. But don’t worry—I’m Mrs. Shakyhands with coffee jitters and still pulled it off. You can too! Just trust me on this: skip the cookie icing. It doesn’t work. Learned that the hard way!
Use whole almonds and pipe white chocolate laces on top to mimic football stitching. The white chocolate tastes great with the almonds and compliments the flavor of the kettle corn nicely.
You'll use melted white chocolate in a piping bag with a tiny icing tip (size #1 to be exact). A zip-top bag with the corner snipped is an option if you don't have a piping bag.
Yes! Kettle corn adds that sweet-and-salty combo, but regular popcorn works too. Just add a bit of sugar or drizzle with white chocolate if you want that sweet touch.

Instructions
- Pop the kettle corn according to package.
- Spread almonds out on a flat tray.
- Melt white chocolate. In a small microwavable cup, heat white chocolate chips for 30 seconds. Stir vigorously with a fork then keep microwaving and stirring in 15-second intervals. Should take only about a minute total before they're completely melted.
- Pipe white chocolate onto almonds. Spoon melted chocolate into a piping bag with a #1 tip. Carefully and quickly draw a line down the middle of each almond then add four tiny stitches across the line. Once all the almonds are decorated, let cool for about 10 minutes or until chocolate has completely hardened. You can pop them in the fridge to speed up the process if you're short on time.
- Combine almonds with popcorn. Put the kettle corn in a large bowl (football shaped perhaps), top with the almond footballs and set the bowl out to be enjoyed by all!
Notes
- If the white chocolate hardens before you're done, set the piping bag, tip first, into a hot cup of water for about 15 seconds to re-melt.
- The white chocolate, almonds and salty-sweet kettle corn go together nicely. However, if you prefer to use regular popcorn, you definitely could.
