It's easy to whip up your own tzatziki sauce at home rather than pay for store-bought and you might even already have all the ingredients you need.
We love tzatziki sauce with Chicken Shawarma Bowls, Greek Chicken Pita Pockets, and on top of this Mediterranean Turkey Skillet. It's a nice creamy and tangy addition to any Greek dish. It's good to know how to make it yourself and it's not hard at all.
Just 5 Ingredients!
This simple recipe is made with 5 main ingredients: yogurt, fresh or dried dill, lemon juice, grated cucumber, and garlic. Stir and season with salt and pepper to taste and you're ready to go!
No Junk Ingredients
When you make your own tzatziki sauce, the benefit is you're skipping out on added junk like preservatives and other unrecognizable ingredients. This, in large part, is why I take the time to make things homemade. Not only does homemade taste better, you're usually feeding your body simpler, more natural foods.
Great for Gyros, Burgers, and Pita Wraps
This is such a healthy and tasty condiment. Use it as much as you can! It's great on burgers, sandwiches, and even makes a tasty salad dressing.
★ Ingredients You'll Need ★
Just 5 main ingredients plus salt and pepper is all you need for this recipe.
- Dill: You can use fresh or dried.
- Lemon: You can use fresh squeezed (best) or bottled lemon juice.
- Cucumber: I prefer English cucumber. They're not as watery and don't have big seeds, but a regular cucumber will do in a pinch.
- Garlic: I usually use garlic paste since it's easy but fresh garlic is great, minced or even garlic powder will work.
- Greek yogurt: Should be plain, unsweetened.
Add salt and pepper to taste.

Yes! For a dairy-free version, swap the traditional Greek yogurt with a plant-based yogurt like coconut or almond yogurt. Just make sure it’s unsweetened and plain to maintain the savory flavor profile.
