    ★ Why You’ll Love this Recipe ★

This Chicken Wonton Bowl is packed with Asian flavor, inspired by Applebee's delicious Chicken Wonton Tacos!

The flavor and textures of this dish are similar to the popular tacos served at Applebee's. So if you love them and want to make your own version at home, you'll love this recipe.

Chicken Wonton Tacos, made into a bowl.

Saucy stir-fried chicken over slaw, then layered with another creamy, spicy, Sriracha-based sauce and finally topped off with crispy wonton strips, instead of stuffed into a wonton taco shell.

It's just easier, really. But also, you control the amount of carbs with how many wonton strips you choose to use.

    15-Minute Dinner

Yes. Really and truly. Cook the chicken, stir up the sauces. Put everything in a bowl and BAM. Dinner is done

When you're looking for a healthy, lower carb dinner that doesn't take forever to prep—this fits the bill!

    Two Sauces = Big Flavor

Not one but two sauces. It might seem excessive. But it's worth it! This recipe is very simple but is full of flavor because of the sauces. You wouldn't really enjoy a salad as much without dressing would you? Same deal.

Since each sauce adds a layer of flavor, you want to be sure you have all the ingredients needed to make both sauces.

When choosing a chili sauce, you can opt for more savory garlic chili sauce, or if you want to add a touch of sweetness, you can opt for sweet chili sauce. Your choice! And if you can't decide, you could absolutely add both.

    ★ Ingredients You'll Need ★

These Chicken Wonton Taco Bowls are quick and easy to make using fresh ingredients and tangy sauce!

You need a few base ingredients plus a couple optional ingredients. Super simple.

    Wonton Chicken Taco Bowl Ingredients

    Here's everything you need:

    • Cooked chicken. Use ground chicken, grilled, rotisserie, canned (be sure to drain) or any kind of cooked and shredded chicken.
    • Cooking oil. Vegetable, corn or canola oil works.
    • Coleslaw mix. A bagged, ready-to-eat blend of green and purple cabbage with carrots.
    • Stir fry sauce. Choose your favorite brand of bottled stir fry sauce.
    • Sesame oil. This is layered in after cooking for extra flavor.
    • Mayonnaise. Just a tough of real mayonnaise creates a rich creaminess.
    • Sriracha sauce. For heat and extra flavor.
    • Wonton strips. For crunch and that taco experience, yet in a bowl.
    • Lime wedges and cilantro for garnish and added flavor.

    That's it!

★ How to Make this Recipe ★

Here's a look at how this delicious taco bowl comes together.

How to Make Chicken Wonton Taco Bowls
    1. Cook chicken in a skillet; add stir fry sauce.
    2. Add coleslaw mix to skillet.
    3. Combine cooked chicken with slaw in a bowl.
    4. Add tortilla strips.
    5. Garnish with fresh cilantro and lime.
    6. Drizzle or offer Sriracha-mayo on the side.

Easy! And great for meal prep.

    ★ Tips & FAQs ★

What kind of chicken is best?

    Any kind of chicken works!

    Ground Chicken

You can really use any kind of chicken here. I use ground chicken because it's the texture you typically expect to find in taco meat. It cooks quickly and easily.

    Rotisserie Chicken

Say you don't have ground chicken. That's OK. You can substitute any kind of chicken. You could cook and shred chicken, chop it up, or start with a plain rotisserie chicken.

    Grilled Chicken

Applebee's tacos are made with grilled chicken. If you enjoy that added flavor you get from grilling, go ahead and grill chicken breasts or thighs, shred them, and then use that in place of ground chicken.

Try it different ways and see what you like best or go with what's convenient for you.

    Save time: try bottled Srirach-mayo.

This tasty combo comes already mixed if you want to skip the step of combining your Sriranca sauce with mayo.

    Storing Leftovers

Leftovers can be store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Store tortilla strip separately and ideally, add Sriracha-mayo right before eating.

Chicken, once cooked, can be enjoyed warm or chilled.

So delicious! I had about half a bag of coleslaw mix in my fridge that I wanted to use up when I came across this recipe. I knew I had to try it since the Applebees tacos are one of my favorite things there! Will definitely be making this again!

Loved this easy dish! I added the bag of slaw to the chicken & sauce. Served over jasmine rice. I didn't use cilantro or lime because it didn't seem necessary. Deelish!

Yes, plain, full-fat Greek yogurt can be used in place of the mayo if you prefer. Thanks for asking, Nicole!

Yummy recipe! I tweaked it a little for us by adding a dressing to the cabbage (soy sauce, Rice vinegar, sugar, sesame oil, mayo), fried the wonton wrappers myself, and had jasmine rice as a base. Had some fried jalapeno from TJ'S as an optional topping for those of us brave enough to add more of a kick 😉 Thanks!

This recipe was AMAZING! Being married to a food blogger myself, I've tasted a whole lot of great dishes and this ranks among my all time favorites! This is a meal that I'm sure I'll be making again and again. I could see it being a big hit with friends and family too, and since it's quick and easy to whip up, that makes it all the more likely that it'll be one of my go-to's. Thanks!

Is there a particular brand of stir fry or garlic chili sauce that you recommend?

I haven't experimented much with different brands, I just opted for what was readily available at Walmart which was Kikkoman stir fry sauce and Huy Fong Foods chili garlic sauce. Here's what they look like:

        Kikkoman Stir Fry Sauce

        Sweeter sauce:
        Sweet Chili Sauce

        -or-

        For low-sugar/less sweet:

Thanks! I went with that stir fry sauce, but chose sweet chili sauce instead. It was a big hit for dinner! My 8-yr-old boy even finished his bowl!

So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try adding sweet chili next time, great idea.
