Versatile
Asian peanut dressing is great on so many things. Here are some ideas for how to use it:
- Salads. Peanut dressing pairs especially well with Thai-style or Asian-inspired salads with ingredients like cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, cucumbers, and grilled chicken or shrimp.
- Noodle bowls. Drizzled over cold soba noodles, rice noodles, or lo mein-style bowls. You can toss spaghetti noodles in this peanut dressing and add veggies, fresh green onions, and/or sesame seeds.
- Spring rolls. Served as a dipping sauce for spring rolls or lettuce wraps. Try my no-cook Thai Chicken Spring Rolls.
- Grain bowls. Layer bowl with rice or quinoa, veggies, and protein like tofu, chicken, or steak then drizzle peanut dressing on top.
- Stir-fries. Used as a finishing sauce to add a boost of flavor and creaminess.
- Marinades. Peanut dressing works well as a marinade for chicken or tofu before grilling or baking or air frying.
- Dipping sauce. Peanut sauce is great with grilled skewers, dumplings, or even raw veggies.
★ Ingredients You'll Need ★
You'll need just 7 ingredients to make this peanut dressing.
Here's a look at each item you'll need to gather:
- Peanut butter. You can also use any nut butter. This will obviously change the flavor but this is a great swap for someone with a peanut allergy to be able to enjoy "peanut" sauce!
- Soy sauce. Go low-sodium if you'd like.
- Garlic and ginger. I like to use paste (or you can use fresh grated).
- White pepper. This adds a nice bite. You don't need much.
- Rice vinegar. Use seasoned for a sweeter dressing, unseasoned for less sweet.
- Sesame oil. Toasted sesame oil will add an extra layer of nutty flavor as compared to regular sesame oil.

★ Tips & FAQs ★
Asian peanut dressing is a creamy, nutty, and savory sauce commonly used on Thai-style salads, noodle or grain bowls, and as a dipping sauce for spring rolls or grilled skewers. It’s also great as a marinade for chicken or tofu, a drizzle for stir-fries, or a flavorful topping for veggies and wraps. Its bold flavor adds richness and a touch of tang to a variety of dishes.
Homemade peanut dressing can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. Just give it a good shake or stir before using.
Absolutely. My husband has a peanut allergy so we are familiar with this! You can substitute your favorite nut butter. He really likes Wow butter. I agree it tastes the most like peanut butter. Cashew butter is another option that tastes great in this dish.
You can also use almond butter, soy butter, or sunflower seed butter as a substitute.
If you enjoy a little extra texture, this is a great option! Crunchy or smooth peanut butter both work well.
